on triple bath: Mecha/Orga – 34:13_Ambeliona

“34:13_Ambeliona” is the 13th solo release of Mecha/Orga, the project of sound artist Yiorgis Sakellariou. The album is based on field recordings that Sakellariou made in the mountain village of Ambeliona. The captured sounds, originating from a huge variety of sources, from thunders and heavy rain to church bells and insects, were not digitally processed. Selected fragments and passages from the recordings were used in an audio montage which is divided into four parts.

Contains field recordings made in Ambeliona, Peloponnese during three consecutive summer periods (2010-2012). Composed by Yiorgis Sakellariou at Ambeliona, August 2012

mastering & graphic by Themistoklis Pantelopoulos, October 2012

on triple bath: João Castro Pinto – Panaural

Portuguese electroacoustic composer and field recordist, João Castro Pinto, has a new recording out on the triple bath label. Consisting of “interspersed soundwalks and soundscapes”, the disc delves into the composer’s take on panaurality, i.e., the formal practice of incorporating the typology of everyday or extra-musical sounds into musical pieces. on triple bath: No Context, Alfredo Costa Monteiro

Alfredo Costa Monteiro | “Umbralia”
trb.031, cdr edition

Umbralia for electric organ [...] Alfredo Costa Monteiro walks on the edge of drone music by recording a rather strident and edgy 45-minute mass of microtonal organ music.”

No Context | “Making Angles from Wind”
trb.030, cdr edition

“[...] an edited live performance by the trio of Adam Baker, Adrian Newton and Allan Upton, aka No Context [...]. Taking field recordings of wind as a basis, the trio created a huge sonic field, enriched by live processing plus the addition of sparsely live-played home-made instruments.”

Ennio Mazzon, Michael Chocholak & Ooy; on triple bath

triple bath’s got new treats

Ennio Mazzon | “Azure Allochiria”

“Azure Allochiria” (from the greek words “allo” and “chira” meaning “other” and “hand” respectively) is Ennio Mazzon’s first solely electronic audio work, after several ones based on field recordings that have been released on physical or digital format, on labels like Time Theory, Impulsive Habitat, Q-tone, Audiotalaia, Resting Bell and his own Ripples label over the course of the last three years. This, being the latest music product of the Italian sound artist, is an electronic environment filled with slivers of sounds, formless at first sight but very cohesive when the reflections and rebounds of the sonic entities unveil the richness and dimension of the sonic whole. more info & samples here

Michael Chocholak & Ooy | “The Hadron Suite”

Michael Chocholak, electroacoustic composer from Oregon and Ooy, electronic composer from Tokyo and member of Conrad Schnitzler’s reformed Kluster, exchanged, processed and arranged each other’s raw material (samples and field recordings) into a series of compositions that grew and coalesced into “The Hadron Suite”. The music, spanning 68 minutes, is varying between electroacoustic sci-fi drone and granular noise. more info & samples here

kerkville – days

triple bath is restless

here is yet another fresh edition on the label, this time the debut of the athens-based project ‘Kerkville’. A one-man show -as it usually happens these days- this one’s the child of one Mihalis Moshoutis, guitar, lap & pedal steel player. Mihalis starts from the raw melodies of the instruments and then manipulates and layers their music through electronics. The result is as expected processed-based, though expressive enough, plus it doesnt shy away from some louder -but still contained- bursts

Daniel Alexander Hignell, Soundscape Study 001

fresh release on triple bath

[...] “Soundscape Study 001″ was designed as a means to this end – by exploring the soundscapes of two geographically distant villages and by spending an extended period of time in each location, he has attempted to (as much as is possible) understand the soundscapes he encountered, not only as a series of sonic events, but as a sensory whole. By comparing two villages he has been able to understand better how sound affects those who live it side by side, what non-sonic events affect the interpretation of sound, and attempted to record, collate and re-compose the soundscapes in a manner that is suggestive of the total soundscape therein. summer reviewed: 2 discs from triple bath

ok, this is embarassing, these came out a good 5 or 6 months ago it seems. still, here’s what the triple bath label has been up to since we last dealt with them:

Lukasz Danielak “Evolving Spheres”

4 + 1 “Live at Sfendoni”

mr. Danielak hails from Poland and deals in otherworldly psychedic abstractions, while 4 + 1 are an Athens-based instrumental outfit (that features more than 4 + 1 musicians in this case, i’m confused).

themis has much more extensive descriptions of these in the label page, as well as mp3 previews of the whole discs. so follow up the links and see what curious things he’s been pimping during the past months

summer haze batch from triple bath

trb018 trb019 trb020

yet another string of cdrs from triple bath. the sax/guitar duo of regular rules, soundscape work from mystified on ‘frigid radiance‘ and a second triple bath release from the quartet of Mike Johnston, Mike Gilmore, Mike Khoury & Kirk Lucas, titled ‘impermanence‘. since i neither have any of the discs at hand, nor any sort of promo text to plagiarize, you’ll be better of clicking here to go to triple bath’s own webpage where you can get a pretty good taste of the albums (online samples and the lot…)

.

in a related note, triple bath’s driving force, Themistoklis Pantelopoulos, has yet another release now out, following a cdr that echomusic put out only a month ago. this time it’s an lp, co-released by uk’s entr’acte and our very own absurd. i’ll be posting the details on that one in the coming days but, really, don’t wait for me to do so before going ahead and ordering one; it’s only 250 copies and pretty smokin’

two new discs from triple bath

trb017 trb016

outward bound – outward bound cdr

working on its members’ compositions, the ensemble aims at creating free forms which remain open and flexible in time and in density of music developments. The compositions of the ensemble are formative rather than melodic or harmonic. Sentimental expression is replaced by psychological variations through alternation of urban and natural music landscapes.

burgundy grapes – lagero cdr

follow-up to the well-received self-titled debut album released by indie-folk-instrumental act Burgundy Grapes early in 2005 on Outlandish Recordings. it documents core duo George Kolyvas and Alexandros Miaoulis with accordionist Yiorgos Tsiatsoulis, a regular collaborator, working mostly live, applying predominantly acoustic sounds, and arranging the material in a sparser-than-usual fashion

introducing triple bath

triple bath is the child of themis pantelopoulos (Nokalypse). it is a label of “fine mysterious experimental musics”, publishing them in a steady flow of cdr editions.

it’s two freshest titles are:

trb0151 trb014

xedh – vinduskarm cdr

new album by the basque electroacoustic composer miguel a. garcia, under the ‘xedh’ alias. mystery evident in each grain of sound, in each cluster of tones, in every resonant aural texture. made of of synthetic sound, acoustic sound and field recordings.

mecha/orga – 61:50 cdr

sixth mecha/orga album. some very diverse work, heavy on the field recordings and lighter on computer synthesis this time.
