ok, this is what a proper label headquarters looks like when you’ve got new releases coming up (and probably much worse, mind you). You definitely have no space for yourself to sleep on the bed (let alone your dog, cat, or, god-forbid, your girlfriend). And this is apparently what more mars‘ hq looks like these days, as they have not one but two new editions on their 3″ nous series. All the better for us!

these two, very lovely, quite limited (120 each), 3″ releases are:

Chris Heenan + Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga – Der schlaue fushs [web] [excerpt]
Yiannis Tsirikoglou – Dust [web] [vimeo]

the first one being an improvised duo from US-born, Berlin-based sax/clarinet player Chris Heenan and our very own zither player, Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga, while the second one is a construction that resulted from an audio/visual collaboration that Yiannis Tsirikoglou had with artist Mariska De Groot.

Chris is an improviser/composer/promoter/member in various groupings. Dimitra is best known for her collaboration with Ferran Fages in ap’strophe, but more and more these days as a solo artist as well. Yiannis is known for his part in the Thessaloniki-based band, eventless plot, but has been lately spending time on his own in The Hague.

fourth in moremars’ 3″ nous series comes the disc ‘noeud’ by athenian electroacoustic improv duo Acte Vide

acte vide consist of Danae Stefanou & Yiannis Kotsonis (aka. sister overdrive). Their music arises from piano and laptop improvisations and, more often than not, moves on to include found objects and similar un-musical things. The duo insists on the moment, and every one of their performances takes some care in reflecting the conditions within which the music is set to appear. This particular disc documents their set at the opening of the ‘knot gallery’ performance space in athens, in early 2009. On this occasion, Danae chose the Erik Satie songbook, opening with the frenchman’s celebrated ‘Vexations’, then Yiannis picked up, turning this into an altogether altered beast

also, it seems we somehow skipped #3 in the series, Figurant’s ‘the way back home’. Singer-songwriter material, with a particular soft spot for sarah records stuff and post-rock abstraction the promo says. Curious to listen to this one.

moremars team said:

Christos Zachos was born in Corfu, Greece in 1980. He has studied electroacoustic and instrumental composition in the music department of the Ionian University and in Graz, Austria. His contribution to the nous 3″ series is 3 tracks that focus in the manipulation of sound fragments and their incorporation in a sound environment that brings to forth their unique uncanny qualities. The listener is exposed to a duration of events that unfold in a sureal way with the carefully constructed sounds aiming with full force against their own source deconstructing and decomposing it. The use of everyday sounds makes also this release a sonic diary of Christos life.

nous series #3, figurant, is apparetnly coming pretty soon as well. keep an eye on this team

‘fun with nuns‘ is the name used by a group of performers active in the scene of thessaloniki for some time now. Appearing with a different line-up almost everytime they perform, they join the dots between free-jazz, no-wave, weirdo musics, psychedelic freakouts and good-old noise. They’re notorious for being blacklisted in their own city (though that doesnt mean they are too extreme, just that thessaloniki in general can’t stand a good weird concert), and for setting the regional record in clearing houses with their concerts.

now comes the record. a limited edition 3″ cdr released by the larissa-based more mars team, the first in the team’s NOUS 3inch series. here goes, 15 freaks participated in the making of this

the more mars team is a militant diy entity from the city of larissa. they publish cd-r editions (sometimes simple ones, sometimes elaborate ones like in the case of the ‘deconstructive music’ 3xcd-r compilation) as well as a semi-regular e-zine. latest releases:

Bored Witch is the culmination of an unexisting trend or an imaginary hype. A band soaked in studio jams, obscure recording sessions and adventurous live appearances. The attitude in these tracks is punkish (in its very political sense) but they also add bits of kraut rock loads of no-wave, noise and improvisation. In their own words “this band is a lapse between relationships, a chance to do something different, to make brain-melting pagan rock’n’roll to be exact, to join the halves and make a whole, to be interesting just this once…”, “ENCOURAGE GIRLS STAGEDIVING, FUCK PATRIARCHY”.

Muso Fantasma is the Spanish duo of Pedro Amodio & Adriana Petit, that work together creating music and collages. Their music is like a trip to unknown and gostly places. a collage of sounds with dramatic melodies. They use sumplers, effects, keyboards, electric guitar and industrial percussions. The artworks are made by Muso Fantasma making this release a real art object!
