Γεννημένος στη Βασιλεία και πλέον κάτοικος Βερολίνου, ο Joke Lanz είναι ένας από τους πιο παραγωγικούς καλλιτέχνες, κινούμενος στα όρια όπου η performance και  η body art συναντούν τον αυτοσχεδιασμό και το θόρυβο. Ως Sudden Infant, δημιουργεί ένα μοναδικό μείγμα σωματικής sound poetry και επιληπτικών εκρήξεων θορύβου, χρησιμοποιώντας μικρόφωνα επαφής, loops, tapes, κ.α. Το αποτέλεσμα είναι μια ακραία μορφή musique concrète που αντιπαραθέτει τη σπασμωδική φλυαρία με μια σειρά από αποπροσανατολιστικά electronics. Βασικό μέλος της κολλεκτίβας Schimpfluch-Gruppe η οποία χρησιμοποίησε στις δράσεις της διάφορα μέσα για να καταλύσει κάθε αντιληπτή έννοια κοινωνικού δόγματος, ο Joke Lanz έχει συνεργαστεί μεταξύ άλλων με τους: Christian Marclay, G.X. Jupitter-Larsen (The Haters), Daniel Menche, Lasse Marhaug (Jazkamer), Voice Crack, MSBR, Astro, C.C.C.C., The New Blockaders.

Εκτός από ιδιοκτήτης της ανεξάρτητης δισκογραφικής PAN, ο Βασίλης Κουλιγκάς εξερευνά και τον κόσμο της ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής, υφαίνοντας το δικό του ηλεκτροακουστικό σύμπαν χρησιμοποιώντας αναλογικά synths, tapes και άλλα εργαλεία για να δημιουργήσει ήχους που ακροβατούν ανάμεσα σε ονειρικά μονοπάτια, θορυβικά περάσματα και λαβυρίνθους από tape loops. Ως Family Battle Snake αλλά και χρησιμοποιώντας το δικό του όνομα έχει συνεργαστεί με τους C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core), Sudden Infant, John Olson (Wolf Eyes), Chris Corsano, Joseph Hammer, Pete Nolan (Magik Markers) και άλλους.

Οι Balinese Beast (Γιώργος Αξιώτης και Ιλάν Μανουάχ) μοιάζει να έχουν βαλθεί να προσδιορίσουν την πιο σύντομη απόσταση ανάμεσα στη  σιωπή και τον εκκωφαντικό θόρυβο, και το αντίστροφο. Οπλισμένοι με free jazz σαξόφωνα, σπιτικά electronics, effects και samples δημιουργούν μινιατούρες από feedback και άγρια, χαοτικά cut-ups που μπλέκουν την πανκ ενέργεια με την αυτοσχεδιαστική πρακτική, σε μια περιπλάνηση στα άκρα του ηχητικού φάσματος. Μετά από ένα αιχμηρό πρώτο LP και μια split κασσέτα με τους Dieter Müh, μόλις κυκλοφόρησαν το επτάιντσο Soft Offerings.

ilan manouach writes to let us know that he is participating with drawings from his new book, LIMBO, in the GENERATION SPONTANÉE exhibition (28-31/1/11) in the Angouleme festival.

The exhibition gathers work from young artists and graphic novel designers from the belgian scene, centering on the 5C, FRMK and EMPLOYE DU MOI editions, and can be accessed during the dates when the festival is ongoing. In june it will travel to paris.

is an anti-venue in thessaloniki, greece. It is a place to gather and to perform music in front of friends and audience, without having to deal with the demands of the bar scene, professional venues, etc. Events are few and far between (usually once every 6 weeks or so), but they are almost always something to be remembered.

always supportive of the local music scene, the venue publishes an annual compilation cd featuring bands that performed there during the previous season. The cds are collectively produced and are available for free at the venue, and are also available for download from the venue’s website here.

so, without further ado, the 2nd protos orofos compilation, covering the 2009-2010 season, is now available.  It features quite a few people who are no strangers to this site, such as  Ilan Manouach, Mohammad, Syndromes Sister Overdrive, Good Luck Mr. Gorsky, and then some…

you might recall back in september we had a notice up for a double bill featuring the double-headed Balinese Beast together with a formidable belgian drummer called Eric Thielemans. Well actually they did a series of concerts together back then, Balinese Beast followed Thielemans in all his Balkan dates following Athens, with their joint tour culminating in the not-so-Balkan city of Berlin, Germany. It was there that they finally parted ways but now they’re back for a scorched-earth set together on stage as a three-piece band, closing the year for Knot Gallery and the city of Athens in the most powerful way possible, channels in the red, guns blazing and all. Not to be missed

together with them is No God Ritual, a one-man project from athens performing with guitar, assorted effect pedals and the lot. Distant and minimalist like a worn-out tape

ilan is a graphic artist as well as a formidable saxophone player whose work often flirts with noise. Ο Ιλάν Μανουάχ καλεί για 3 συναυλίες στην Ελλάδα έναν από τους πιο δραστήριους μουσικούς της ευρωπαικής σκηνής, τον Michel Doneda.
Έμπειρος αυτοσχεδιαστής, μουσικός με πλούσιες επιρροές τόσο από την σύχρονη μουσική (Luciano Berio, Giacinto Scelsi) μέσα από την χρήση των extended techniques στο σαξόφωνο όσο και από την πανκ και το χαρντκορ (Kaoru Abe, Sonic Youth με τους οποίους και έχει συνεργαστεί) είναι ένας από τους λιγους αυτοσχεδιαστές που προτείνουν μια εκλεπτυσμένη μόρφη ηχητικής βίας. Οι μουσικές του και οι συναντήσεις αυτές έχουν θρέψει μια πλούσια δισκογραφική δράση, περιλαμβάνοντας πάνω από 50 δίσκους στο δυναμικό του.

Ο Ιλάν Μανουάχ είναι μουσικός και ασχολείται επίσης επαγγελματικά με τα πειραματικές μορφές διήγησης, Οι εικαστικές του δουλειές εκδίδονται στο Βέλγιο καθώς και σε άλλες χώρες στην Ευρώπη και ετοιμάζεται να εκδόσει το πρώτο σόλο lp.

Cakes Of Light
Οι Cakes Of Light από την ανατολική ακτή των ΗΠΑ είναι ένα συγκρότημα (Jay Dunbar) με επιρροές από την φολκ, την progressive ψυχεδελική μουσική και αναφορές σε καλλιτέχνες όπως Βurroughs, Pavement, Can, United States of America,  Derrida, Sonic Youth, John Cage, The Ex, Violent Femmes, Einsturzende Neubauten, The Velvet Underground και άλλοι. Η Ξάνθη είναι ο τελευταίος σταθμός στα πλαίσια μιας μικρής περιοδείας τους στην χώρα μας.

Ο Ιλάν Μανουάχ είναι σαξοφωνίστας με επιρροές που διατρέχουν το punk, την free jazz, τη σύγχρονη λόγια μουσική και το klezmer! Είναι επίσης θεατρικός περφόρμερ και καρτουνίστας με εκδόσεις σε Ελλάδα και εξωτερικό. Στο ενεργητικό του έχει ποικίλες συνεργασίες κι έχει συμμετάσχει σε διάφορα workshops αυτοσχεδιασμού στις Βρυξέλλες όπου και έζησε για 8 χρόνια.
