<p>the Unnamed Music Festival was one of the more rewarding initiatives of the first half of this year. Currated by <a href="http://www.anothertimbre.com/index.html" target="_blank">another timbre</a>&#8216;s Simon Reynell, it was held in mid-june in the cities of London and Leeds and featured an intricate mix of players that reflected its currators tastes as much as it reflected the until-recently imperceptible changes in the waters of improvised music. Some of those players came from the latest wave of London-based improvisers, some were more closely aligned to the EAI school of musicians, a couple of elder statesmen were included for good measure as well. Though on paper things didn&#8217;t look too spiky, the sets were full of subtle and rewarding moments. We witnessed strong working groups given ample space to flesh out their music (<span class="Normal-C0">Tom Chant</span><span class="Normal-C1">/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Angharad Davies/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Benedict Drew</span><span class="Normal-C1">/</span><span class="Normal-C0">John Edwards and </span><span class="Normal-C0">Rhodri Davies/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Louisa     Martin</span><span class="Normal-C1">/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Lee Patterson with Lucio Capece filling in for missing members), delicate attempts to beauty (</span><span class="Normal-C0">Sebastian Lexer</span><span class="Normal-C1">/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Aleks Kolkowski and </span><span class="Normal-C0">Clive Bell/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Matt Milton/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Bechir Saade) and two sets full-on risk-taking improvisation</span> <span class="Normal-C0">(Paul Abbott/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Jamie Coleman/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Grundik Kasyansky/</span><span class="Normal-C0">Ute Kanngiesser &amp; the guns-blazing trio of Keith Rowe/Martin K</span><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:PunctuationKerning /> <w:ValidateAgainstSchemas /> <w:SaveIfXMLInvalid>false</w:SaveIfXMLInvalid> <w:IgnoreMixedContent>false</w:IgnoreMixedContent> <w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText>false</w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText> <w:Compatibility> <w:BreakWrappedTables /> <w:SnapToGridInCell /> <w:WrapTextWithPunct /> <w:UseAsianBreakRules /> <w:DontGrowAutofit /> <w:UseFELayout /> </w:Compatibility> <w:BrowserLevel>MicrosoftInternetExplorer4</w:BrowserLevel> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:LatentStyles DefLockedState="false" LatentStyleCount="156"> </w:LatentStyles> </xml><![endif]--><!-- <span class="mceItemHidden"> <!   /* Font Definitions */  @font-face 	{font-family:"MS <span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">Mincho</span>&#8220;; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">panose</span>-1:2 2 6 9 4 2 5 8 3 4; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-font-alt:&#8221;ＭＳ 明朝&#8221;; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-font-<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">charset</span>:128; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-generic-font-family:modern; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-font-pitch:fixed; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-font-signature:-1610612033 1757936891 16 0 131231 0;} @font-face 	{font-family:&#8221;@MS <span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">Mincho</span>&#8220;; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">panose</span>-1:2 2 6 9 4 2 5 8 3 4; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-font-<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">charset</span>:128; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-generic-font-family:modern; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-font-pitch:fixed; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-font-signature:-1610612033 1757936891 16 0 131231 0;}  /* Style Definitions */  p.<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">MsoNormal</span>, <span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">li</span>.<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">MsoNormal</span>, div.<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">MsoNormal</span> {<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-style-parent:&#8221;"; 	margin:0cm; 	margin-bottom:.0001pt; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-pagination:widow-orphan; 	font-size:12.0pt; 	font-family:&#8221;Times New Roman&#8221;; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">fareast</span>-font-family:&#8221;MS <span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">Mincho</span>&#8220;;} @page Section1 	{size:595.3pt 841.9pt; 	margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-header-margin:35.4pt; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-footer-margin:35.4pt; 	<span class="mceItemHiddenSpellWord">mso</span>-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 	{page:Section1;}  &gt; </span> &#8211;><!--[if gte mso 10]> <mce:style><!   /* Style Definitions */  table.MsoNormalTable 	{mso-style-name:"Κανονικός πίνακας"; 	mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; 	mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; 	mso-style-noshow:yes; 	mso-style-parent:""; 	mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; 	mso-para-margin:0cm; 	mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; 	mso-pagination:widow-orphan; 	font-size:10.0pt; 	font-family:"Times New Roman"; 	mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; 	mso-ansi-language:#0400; 	mso-fareast-language:#0400; 	mso-bidi-language:#0400;} --><!--[endif]-->üchen/Seymour Wright). <p>the main reason for this post is not to bore you with my one-line reflections, but to point to the way of a download page that is now up at the another timbre webpage:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.anothertimbre.com/downloads.html" target="_blank">http://www.anothertimbre.com/downloads.html</a></p>
<p>in this page, and until september, you&#8217;ll be able to listen and download extracts from the music performed at the festival (from all but one of the sets that took place). Some very interesting music there, and quite different at places from the way i remember it -the workings of human senses never cease to confound.</p>
