here is a quick overview of some of the more interesting labels (& non-labels) that form the record-releasing mold of the greek underground scene. this page is more of a placeholder providing our own not-very-descriptive descriptions, a few recent album covers for each label, links to the label pages as well as links to any content available in this site that is somehow relevant to each label. so indulge yourselves in a healthy dose of information, and do take the time to check out their individual webpages for details/sounds/etc

absurd and its imidiate familly of monikers is the brainchild of nicolas malevitsis and the real-life greek proof that things can be done in a different way. specializing in almost everything, but notorious for its championing of all things noisy and for a quite spectacular dip in reductionism’s sparse waters back in the golden old days, it continues to confound expectations and insist on neglected corners.

gracetone recordings [r.i.p.] is a co-op from thessaloniki, greece. they focus on the serious promotion of local talent, and put a lot of work on the visual presentation of their discs. the music sometimes fall a bit off the scope of this site, but then it’s good to see things from a different perspective now and then. home to the vastly underappreciated ‘vokal idiot’ cd, as well as a handful of 7″ split discs

granny records is a homegrown label run by the people behind the thessaloniki-based band ‘good luck mr.gorsky’. they do what they do with a simple idea behind everything -releasing their own music and the music of people they consider friends and kindred spirits. that said, the label’s output does maintain a focused sound and aesthetic, starting from the post-rock and post-electronica roots shared by good luck mr.gorsky and their fellow travellers ‘eventless plot’, and moving on to exploring what is left to explore beyond all that. hazy soundscapes, abstract beatwork, careful distillations of group playing and so on. great and consistent work on the graphics side of the label, granny people are also responsible for the infrequent presentations of experimental music in the ‘facta non verba’ theatre space in thessaloniki
