probably you’ve heard about this one before, as the internet has been buzzing about it for some days now, but here it goes if you’ve been living under a rock. The great greek Soundeyet blog has commisioned and compiled a killer album of rembetika covers by some great contemporary artists such as Daniel Padden, Andy Moor & Yannis Kyriakides, Ignatz, Astral Social Club, Mike Cooper & Viv Corringham, e.a., hoping to do their bit in keeping the rembetika love and influence alive and kicking. στο tumblr του νικόλα (tileskopio.tumblr.com) ανέβηκαν τις τελευταίες ημέρες μια σειρά από συνεντεύξεις, που όπως λέει ο ίδιος “έγιναν με φίλους κάπου μεταξύ 2005 και 2006 για ένα φάνζιν που για διάφορους λόγους το πρωτόλειο του έμεινε στο ράφι ή για την ακρίβεια μαζεύει σκόνη κάπου στο υλικό αρχείο του absurd…”. Επειδή οι φίλοι που αναφέρονται εδώ, όλο και κάτι ενδιαφέρον να πούνε για τα θέματα με τα οποία καταπιανόμαστε εδώ πέρα, δίνω ένα ευρετήριο με τα τελευταία ποστ, για όσους θέλουν να πάνε κατευθείαν στο ψητό και να διαβάσουν συγκεκριμένα κάποια από αυτές τις πολύ ενδιαφέρουσες κουβέντες.

another curio that might leave some scratching their heads in puzzlement, even thought it should be as self-evident as the sun. A product, or distillation, of a good deal of creative fusion taking place in the sub-strata of athens’ creative undercurrents, an ecstatic burst from a cheery bunch of non-youngsters, ‘Yparxei Provlima Amalia’ translates to ‘There is a problem, Amalia’, Amalia being the name of a certain cat if my memory serves me right. The record was recorded on 13.7.2012 and contains a mixture of electronic music, snatches of sound and music concrete. The soundcloud clip underneath, contains what seems to be sounds of people faking frog sounds, or actual frog sounds recorded badly, but i’d say who did what here could well be beyond the point. This was recorded by Yparxei Provlima Amalia with the help of friends, and mixed by Panos Alexiadis.

It is released by Somehow Ecstatic Records in a cdr edition, and it is available for 6eu ppd from the label page here

ok, here’s for the, now monthly, echomusic release. This one’s from the, unbeknown to us prior to this, Lithuanian artist, Arturas Bumšteinas. The release, whose title actually translates to ‘This is the Last Sunday’, is a live recording of a solo performance of his in Warsaw -last one in a series of Sunday concerts organized in the particular venue between 2009 and 2012, as echomusic informs us. ‘To Ostatnia Niedziela’ is also a title of a world-famous tango composed by Jerzy Petersburski in Warsaw (1935), and a two-second fragment of this tango was apparently used in the end of Bumšteinas’ performance. Bumšteinas performs here using bowed bicycle wheels, tone generators and a tape player.
