black to comm is the personal project of marc richter (label owner of the dekorder imprint), in which he brings together the sounds of old-fashioned synthesizers, conventional instruments, tapes, effects, manipulated vinyl and so on, in creating dark electronica sounds and imposing ambiences. Either through epic drone-y tracks or in brief song-like miniatures, he carries the listener to some uniquely hypnotic musical paths.

Η ομάδα  Silence Fiction Society και το noise-below.org παρουσιάζουν τους Brothers Unconnected -ένα project των Alan και Richard Bishop ιδρυτικών μελών των Sun City Girls- σε ένα αφιέρωμα στην 27χρονη ιστορία του εμβληματικού γκρουπ.

Το πειραματικό μουσικό τρίο των Sun City Girls ιδρύθηκε το 1981 από τους αδελφούς Alan και Richard Bishop, ένα χρόνο αργότερα προσχώρησε στις τάξεις του γκρουπ ο ντράμερ Charles Gocher συμβάλοντας στη δημιουργία μιας από τις,  αδιαμφισβήτητα, πιο καινοτόμες και επιδραστικές underground μπάντες της Βορείου Αμερικής.

Tον Φεβρουάριο του 2007, οι αδελφοί Bishop αποφάσισαν τη διάλυση των Sun City Girls λόγω του θανάτου του Charles Gocher μετά από μακριά μάχη με τον καρκίνο, και αποφάσισαν να μετεξελιχθούν στο σχήμα Brothers Unconnected που πρωτοπαρουσιάστηκε στην Αμερικάνικη τουρνέ τους : A tribute to Sun City Girls and Charles Gocher το 2008. Η συγκεκριμένη τουρνέ, αποτέλεσε το δικό τους τρόπο να τιμήσουν τη μνήμη και το ταλέντο του αγαπημένου τους συνοδοιπόρου αλλά και την ιστορία των Sun City Girls. Μετά από προσπάθειες 3 ετών η περιοδεία θα λάβει χώρα για πρώτη -και τελευταία- φορά στην Ευρώπη.

Την συναυλία θα ανοίξει η 50λεπτη πειραματική ταινία «The Handsome Stranger» σκηνοθετημένη από τον Charles Gocher. Κατόπιν θα ακολουθήσουν δύο ακουστικά σετ στα οποία το ντουέτο των Alan και Richard Bishop θα παρουσιάσουν μια αναδρομή στην –ομολογουμένως τεράστια και πολυσχιδή- δισκογραφία των Sun City Girls, καθώς και κομματιών που συνέθεσε ο Charles Gocher.

Ο τεχνοκριτικός Θανάσης Μουτσόπουλος, κάνει ειδικά για την περίσταση το ντεμπούτο του ως  dj, επενδύοντας μουσικά τα διαλείμματα αλλά και το φινάλε της βραδιάς. Θα παίξει αποκλειστικά 45άρια και κασέτες υβριδικής ποπ από την Περιφέρεια με έμφαση στην Αφρική, την Μέση Ανατολή και την Ν. Ανατολική Ασία.

The Brothers Unconnected is a tribute to the legendary band Sun City Girls. Sun City Girls were an experimental music trio from the United States founded in 1981 by brothers Alan and Richard Bishop. Charles Gocher joined as percussionist in 1982 and SCG went on to become what many have described as North America’s most innovative and influential underground group.

In February of 2007, after a long battle with cancer, Gocher passed away. Alan and Richard immediately decided that Sun City Girls will no longer exist as a recording or performing entity. A private memorial was held shortly after and during the summer of 2008 the Bishop Brothers toured North America under the name The Brothers Unconnected: A tribute to Sun City Girls and Charles Gocher. With that tour, Alan and Rick made good on their vow to publicly honor Charlie, his memory, and his immense talent. The Brothers Unconnected also serves as a tribute to the legacy of the group. At the time there were plans to also take the show to Europe yet this never materialized…until now. The Brothers Unconnected performance will feature Alan and Richard playing selected songs from the impossibly voluminous catalog of Sun City Girls material created during their 27 year history together, including several tracks written by and/or originally performed by Gocher.

The show will feature an opening 50 minute film of Charles Gocher’s video experiments followed by two sets of music. AB and RB will be performing Sun City Girls songs as an acoustic guitar duet. This tour will most likely be the only time this show will be presented as such and is a tribute both to Charles Gocher and selected music from the 27 year legacy of Sun City Girls.

there is a new release out on organized music from thessaloniki, though it’s a little bit different than what you’d initially expect.

this one comes in vinyl first of all, a gorgeous little 7″ ep with 9 songs. Now i said songs, and usually you’d expect long stretches of electroacoustics from this label, but on this release the focus is on a brilliant greek songwriter, Angelos kyriou. Well known in the small-scale-gig circle of athens for the past few years (as well as through his blog, from where he usually shares his music) for his idiosyncratic short tunes, quirky lyrics, and unique in-your-face effect of what he does, he has nevertheless refused to play himself up and emerge as some sort of faux-underground indie-king and it’s only now that his music begins to appear on ‘traditional’ fixed media, though we’ve had him in our mp3 players for some time now. Having had his music and his uncanny observations wash through our daily lives for some time now, we’ve decided to share some of it with you. It’s a personal trip, but few remain unmoved.

antifrost strikes with a projected series of very limited edition tapes, focusing on voice-based work. The first entry (afro 2045: Michael Esposito – Fantom Auditory Operations: “Escape Plan”) is to drop in march and subsequent entries are expected on a monthly basis. Antifrost is offering a subscription to the first 5 tapes, and judging by the low numbers in which these are to appear, this might end up being the only way to aquire them.

“editions will be limited to 40-80 copies and artists include: Leif Elggren, Raionbashi, Daniel Menche, Michael Esposito, Francisco Meirino and others.”

Ο Δημήτρης Καμαρωτός, μουσικός του Theseum Ensemble, επιλέγει και παρουσιάζει μαζί με την Αμαλία Μουτούση, την μουσική του από παραστάσεις από το 1993 μέχρι σήμερα, σε μια σειρά συναυλιών με τον τίτλο: “ NO ONE CURED ”.

Θα υπάρχουν τραγούδια και μουσική όπως ήταν ενταγμένα στις παραστάσεις, αλλά και μέρη τους που  διαμορφώθηκαν με την απόσταση που μας χωρίζει από αυτές και τις ανάγκες της ζωντανής μουσικής.

φωτιά από όλες τις γωνιές της ευρώπης μας φέρνουν για άλλη μια φορά το noise, a few decks below και η knot gallery, σε ένα ντελιριακό τριπλό live το σάββατο 12 φεβρουαρίου. Ένα live που σίγουρα θα αφήσει να αλωνίζουν κάθε είδους λοξοί ήχοι και διαθέσεις. Την βραδυά ανοίγουν οι νεοεμφανιζόμενοι xysm, μια κολλεκτίβα από την αθήνα με ήχο που αγγίζει τη free jazz, τον ελεύθερο αυτοσχεδιασμό, το post rock και τον θόρυβο, όλα μαζί σε ένα δυναμικό μίγμα. Ενδιάμεσα θα έχουμε τη χαρά να απολαύσουμε τους εκ βρετανίας ορμώμενους blood stereo, το ντουέτο εδώ και έντεκα χρόνια των karen constance και dylan nyoukis (επιμελητή του εμβληματικού λέιμπελ chocolate monk), να χάνεται μέσα σε φωνητικά ακροβατικά, lo-fi ηχοτοπία και επαναδιατυπωμένες πραγματικότητες. Το κλείσιμο, τέλος, της ημέρας θα προσφέρουν οι ιταλοί jooklo duo (virginia genta (σαξόφωνα) & david vanzan (ντραμς)), ένα ίσώς απο τα καταιγιστικότερα ευρωπαϊκά free jazz ντουέτα αυτή τη στιγμή, με αδιάλειπτη ζωντανή παρουσία από την ίδρυσή του (2004) και με σωρεία συνεργασιών σε ευρύτερα σχήματα με μουσικούς όπως, για παράδειγμα  με τον makoto kawabata των acid mothers temple, αλλά και με πολλούς άλλους. Μια όχι πολύ ήσυχη βραδυά, οπότε ελπίζουμε τα καθίσματα στον χώρο της knot αυτή τη φορά να μείνουν αχρείαστα.

Ennio Mazzon | “Azure Allochiria”

“Azure Allochiria” (from the greek words “allo” and “chira” meaning “other” and “hand” respectively) is Ennio Mazzon’s first solely electronic audio work, after several ones based on field recordings that have been released on physical or digital format, on labels like Time Theory, Impulsive Habitat, Q-tone, Audiotalaia, Resting Bell and his own Ripples label over the course of the last three years. This, being the latest music product of the Italian sound artist, is an electronic environment filled with slivers of sounds, formless at first sight but very cohesive when the reflections and rebounds of the sonic entities unveil the richness and dimension of the sonic whole. more info & samples here

Michael Chocholak & Ooy | “The Hadron Suite”

Michael Chocholak, electroacoustic composer from Oregon and Ooy, electronic composer from Tokyo and member of Conrad Schnitzler’s reformed Kluster, exchanged, processed and arranged each other’s raw material (samples and field recordings) into a series of compositions that grew and coalesced into “The Hadron Suite”. The music, spanning 68 minutes, is varying between electroacoustic sci-fi drone and granular noise. more info & samples here
