absurd’s contact (email) address has changed

in the biggest fuck-up in a series of major fuck-ups (see below about our non-functioning mailing lists), absurd has lost its long-standing email address.

long story short, the absurd _ |at| _ otenet _ gr address is no longer working. if you happened to send an email to this address in the past month or so, chances are it has failed to reach us.

please direct all future communication to:

nicolas.malevitsis _ |at| _ gmail _ com

the old address may eventually return, but it seems best to keep an independent host for now

apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused

au seuil de la liberté (diptych)

here’s one that’s been available for a while, but i hesitated to write about it

i hesitated because it’s bloody good, and i wanted to spend some time and write something more substantial about it

(but as it usually happens, i have yet to dedicate the time, and i fear it will unceremoniously disappear in the torrents of online information)

so without further ado, here’s the latest release by Socrates Martinis. After many aliases (each for every record actually; nixilx.nijilx, Hélice Pied and blanco estira nuestro (+), hermana Hélice were the previous ones) this one comes without a discernible artist name, with only the work’s title to mark its territory. But this is unimportant

the 7″ comes in coloured vinyl, it contains “field recordings & objects composed by Martinis”. I’d attempt to descibe it as raw (though not really violent), unpredictable and visceral. But like most works that contain this kind of material one cannot really anticipate what’s contained within, in terms of direction, quality, approach, etc -merely by description. Though the true gems in the area always seem to shine through, and this is one of those gems. Wish i had a portable vinyl player to blast it through the afternoon

mailing list meltdown

our mailing lists are down

having less time to dedicate on the site these past few months, i only recently realised that the database behind our mailing lists has ceased to function. This means that both the ‘absurd’ and the ‘organized music from thessaloniki’ labels’ mailing lists are not in operation. I have tried in vain to fix this problem, but at the moment i cannot even salvage the subscribers’ email addresses. Which means that those people who will not read this entry, might have to wait a long time befor they receive anything new from those lists. My apologies for this.

For the time being, you are encouraged to subscribe to this blog’s RSS feed as an alternative. It will contain any info that would have apeared in those lists, as well as other news from related labels and artists. Or just keep an eye on our pages, the old-fashioned way.

Even though i myself still favor mailing lists and their succinct notifications, maybe this will prove to be a way forward since more and more people today seem to depend on automatic notifications. I’m afraid we don’t have another choice for now
