Alexander Rishaug
Ο Alexander Rishaug κινείται στο χώρο της sound art και χρησιμοποιεί field recordings, παιχνίδια και μουσικά όργανα για να χτίσει μελαγχολικές συνθέσεις με πλούσιο ατμοσφαιρικό ήχο και έμφαση στις αργές μελωδικές γραμμές και τα ρυθμικά σχήματα. Αισθητικά τα ηχοτοπία του Rishaug κινούνται πάνω στους άξονες που ορίζει ο πρώιμος μινιμαλισμός των Riley και Reich, η ηλεκτρονική σύνθεση τών Henry και Parmegiani, η glitch και ο ευρύτερος σύγχρονος ηλεκτρονικός ήχος εμποτίζοντας τα με βαθειά προσωπική και συναισθηματική ανάγνωση και αποφεύγοντας τον ακαδημαϊσμό που συχνά συνδέεται με αυτα τα κινήματα.

ILIOS
Ο ILIOS ξεκίνησε να δραστηριοποιείται στο χώρο της διερεύνησης ακραίων ηχητικών φαινομένων από τις αρχές των 90s χρησιμοποιώντας, ως επί το πλείστον, ηλεκτρονικά μέσα. Με πολυάριθμες κυκλοφορίες και πάνω από 200 ζωντανές εμφανίσεις παγκοσμίως αποτελεί μια από τις πιο σημαντικές παρουσίες στο χώρο του ηλεκτρονικού πειραματισμού.

Νίκος Βελιώτης
Ο Νίκος Βελιώτης είναι ένας τσελίστας και βίντεο καλλιτέχνης που, μετά από πολλά χρόνια ενεργής παρουσίας, επιτέλους πλέον δεν χρειάζεται πολλές συστάσεις στο κοινό της χώρας μας. Στο μουσικό του έργο εξερευνά τον ήχο πέρα από τα συνηθισμένα όρια, ξεκινώντας από ανορθόδοξες τεχνικές και εκτεταμένες διάρκειες.
Είναι μέλος των μουσικών σχημάτων Cranc (με τους Rhodri & Αngharad Davies), Looper (Martin Küchen & Ingar Zach), Texturizer (Coti), Mohammad (Coti, Ilios), Vertical (Αναστάσης Γρίβας), ενώ έχει συνεργαστεί και με τους “τραγουδοποιούς” David Grubbs και Γιάννη Αγγελάκα.

yiorgis sakellariou has certainly been keeping us busy lately, what with his prolific output as an artist (see previous post), or his field-recording adventures which he regularly posts us to include in this page’s journal. But mostly these days, thanks to his re-energized efforts in promoting other peoples’ music through his fine echomusic label. And who are we to complain when this month’s freely downloadable edition turns out to contain the work of none other than noise-below favourite Al Margolis?

Margolis’ If, Bwana project is one of the consistently more reliable entities in the area that can with very little accuracy be labeled as “modern composition”. No room for any high-brow bullshit here though, this is sonic alchemy pure and simple. Lend an ear :

Οι Aspec(t) σχηματίστηκαν στη Νάπολη και αποτελούνται από τους SEC_ και Mario Gabola. Ο SEC_ χρησιμοποιεί μαγνητόφωνο Revox, υπολογιστή και no-input feedback, ενώ ο Mario παίζει σαξόφωνο και feedback μέσα από μια ηλεκτρο-ακουστική αλυσίδα από τύμπανα, μικρόφωνα και μικρά ηχεία. Η μουσική τους μοιράζεται την ηχοχρωματική εξερεύνηση και τον εκτελεστικό έλεγχο, χαρακτηριστικό της ριζοσπαστικής αυτοσχεδιαστικής μουσικής (Pateras/Baxter/Brown, John Butcher, Jim Denley, Bruce Russell, κ.ά.), αλλά συναντά την ενστικτώδη ένταση και τη σκοτεινή εκφραστικότητα του νέου αξιονισμού και της noise (Rudolf Eb.er, Dave Phillips, Joke Lanz), καθώς και την έρευνα στις αναλογικές συσκευές και την ηχητική ύλη της musique concrète (Lionel Marchetti, Jérôme Noetinger). Το αποτέλεσμα είναι ένα συναρπαστικό ηχητικό μείγμα: φρενητικές δομές, θορυβικές εκρήξεις, και μια αδειάλειπτη διαστροφή του ηχοτοπίου και της χρονικής ροής.
Έχουν συνεργαστεί με τους Jérôme Noetinger, Dave Phillips, Valerio Tricoli, Ignaz Schick, Eugene Chadbourne, Arnaud Rivière, Clayton Thomas και άλλους. Ο SEC_ είναι επίσης μέλος των Weltraum και Endorgan, ενώ ο Mario συμπράττει συχνά με τον Agostino Di Scipio και είναι μέλος των A Spirale.

Από τα σκοτεινά και στέρεα drones, τους concrète ήχους, το feedback και τα ψύγματα κρουστών που αποτελούσαν τον κορμό του πρώιμου ήχου του, μέχρι τους θορυβικούς λαβυρίνθους που πλέον εξερευνά μέσω ιδιοκατασκευασμένων synth modules, ο No God Ritual έχει ένα μυστηριώδες ταλέντο στο να υφαίνει περιπετειώδεις και διερευνητικές συνθέσεις. Μετά από μια πρώτη κασέτα στην αξιόλογη βρετανική Sound Holes και ένα CD, μόλις κυκλοφόρησε μια split κασέτα με τους Aspec(t) (excrete music #3) .Έχει εμφανιστεί πλάι στους John Wiese, Lasse Marhaug, Wooden Shjips, Eric Thielemans, Balinese Beast, κ.ά., ενώ είναι και μέλος των Jesuits με τον Ιλάν Μανουάχ. Για την εμφάνιση στη Knot Gallery, θα συνεργαστεί με τον Red Channels.

Με έδρα το Portland, Oregon ο Gordon Ashworth κυκλοφορεί εδώ και μια δεκαετία ηχογραφήσεις μεσα απο μια σειρά απο προσωπικά πρότζεκτ και συνεργασίες. Αν και γνωστότερος διεθνώς μέσα απο το noise πρότζεκτ του Oscillating Innards, με το όνομα Concern ο Αshworth παράγει λεπτοδουλεμένα κολλάζ από ηχογραφήσεις ακουστικών οργάνων και field recordings, εστιάζοντας στις λεπτομέρειες των αρμονικών και δημιουργώντας παράξενα, άχρονα τοπία αντηχήσεων. Οι κυκλοφορίες του στην Digitalis και Arbor τον τοποθετούν στο επίκεντρο του σύγχρονου drone ήχου.

The Rita
Από το 1996 ο Sam McKinlay δραστηριοποιείται στο χώρο της sound art με το προσωπικό του πρότζεκτ The Rita, ένα κράμα από ζωντανές και προηχογραφημένες αναλογικές πηγές, εφε, και visuals. Η διερευνητική, αποδομητική του προσέγγιση στο θόρυβο επεκτείνεται στα εικαστικά και στην ιστορική έρευνα ντοκουμέντων της noise, από τη δεκαετία του 70 μέχρι σήμερα. Εμπνευσμένος από το μινιμαλισμό, την αφαίρεση και τις περιβαλλοντικές προσεγγίσεις στην τέχνη, ο McKinlay παρουσιάζει έντονες και αιχμηρές ηχητικές εμπειρίες, σε άμεση συνάρτηση με τους διαφορετικούς χώρους όπου εμφανίζεται.

Holefold Diver
Οι Holefold Diver είναι το νέο σχήμα των Πάνου Αλεξιάδη (Lunar Miasma) και Γιώργου Αξιώτη (Balinese Beast, Bruised Lee, Free Piece of Tape). Συνθεσαίζερς και συστοιχίες απο εφφέ σε αλλόκοτες και αναπάντεχες συνδεσμολογίες συνθέτουν ζωντανα σπειροειδή ηχοτοπία τα οποία άλλοτε αποδομούνται και άλλοτε πάλι αναδομούνται γύρω απο αυτοσχέδιες ηχητικές δίνες. Η πρώτη τους κυκλοφορία “Morphing Mass” σε 100 περιορισμένα μεταξοτυπημένα αντίτυπα είναι ήδη γεγονός.

Greek-born and current Lithuanian resident Yiorgis Sakellariou (a.k.a. Mecha/Orga), will be packing his fields & drones and taking them to the land of the Netherlands in a few days. It’s not his first visit in the region, so it’s safe to say they like him there, so much that he will be collaborating with such eminent gentlemen like Roel Meelkop & Jos Smolders. Right on!

the echomusic net label presents Luis Antero’s ‘Postais Sonoros’ (Field recordings from Portugal). In which Antero (field recordist, net label and radio program curator), offers 40 sonic post cards from various locations of Portugal:

When we come to a country or a location in a country, we see in their local cards locations precious documents of those places, testimonies of memory over time, whose noble function is to put in front of our eyes, the special moment that led us to visit a particular place. The cards are so the testimony of that passionate passage who can take us, over and over, to recall the places where we always look for them. And if the cards were also sound, carrying in its shape the sounds we heard and shared in that special place?

This work aims, precisely, to try to give an answer to this question. We want to listen to as a randomized collection of sound cards of certain zones of Portugal, from Serra da Estrela to Lisbon.

There wasn’t a logical criterion in the presentation of these 40 tracks. Just the idea of seeing, in a random way, villages, towns, cities, mountains or sea cards from this huge (although geographically small) country, “planted by the sea” and its rich and deep sound identities.

Through the course of its existence, Delenia has functioned as a number of mediums, from sexual hide away to isolation kernel for the maladjusted. Nowadays it is primarily a hostel. This tape box represents an in situ experience of a one week excursion during autumn of 2011, as well as a constructive memory of this visit on side B.
